United States - December 13, 2007 - A New Hampshire aquaculture company and a Sorrento fisherman are joining forces in an effort to learn how to raise cod and halibut in floating net pens.
NORWEGIAN researchers at NIFES have demonstrated that mercury accumulates in cod fillets when the fish is fed feed containing methyl mercury. The elimination rate of the accumulated mercury was relatively slow. Research results indicate that about 40% of the mercury was transferred from feed to fillet.
COD has just reached a world record price of £6.40 a kilo on a major European fish market, while little more than 100 miles away, one skipper was reportedly throwing thousands of pounds worth back into the sea.
